AGSN is not a rehoming organisation however, we do work with a number of rehoming organisations around Australia.  Whilst AGSN does not rehome the dogs, as part of our support function we actively assist rehoming organisations through managing adoption applications, house checks and providing support and assistance before, during and after adoption. Our support network is renown throughout Australia as being friendly, supportive and knowledgeable.

Adoption process

House checks

After you get in touch with AGSN, the first step will be for one of our members to perform a house check. Whilst it may sound daunting, this provides an invaluable opportunity for an experienced greyhound owner to provide helpful advice and understand your needs. This process includes discussions on how to make your home as inviting as possible for your new doggy friend and understanding the type of lifestyle you and/or your family lead to make sure we help you choose the most appropriate dog for your circumstance.

Trial period

Before being formally adopted, all dogs are trialled for three weeks. This gives both the dog and the family an opportunity to get a feel for each other and the rhythm of the household. Whilst we try our best to fit the perfect dog to the perfect family and vice versa, it's much more definitive to trial the dog in the environment.

After the trial period, the rehoming organisation who owns the dog will be in touch to finalise the adoption paperwork. AGSN is not involved in this process.

Once your adoption is finalised, make sure you keep a close eye on the AGSN events page and Facebook group to keep up to date with AGSN events and pack walks. This is a great opportunity to socialise with like-minded greyhound owners and socialise your animal in a supportive and friendly environment.
